Plenty of people think effective leadership is about credentials or experience. But the first and most crucial move to stepping up your game as head honcho is recognizing your leadership skills.

If you know you are capable, and acknowledge those capabilities, you are well on your way to effective leadership. Sounds simple, right? Well, it really is. But often in life the simplest of tasks can be the most difficult to execute. We are so wrapped up in our complex thinking, our complex lives, schedules, and tasks that we automatically overlook the barest of essentials.

How often do you skip lunch? It's a simple enough concept: you need food to live. And yet, because of the complexities of life and business, we sacrifice this simple task, in essence borrowing energy and time from a simple concept thinking we are giving it to the more complex aspects of our day.

The trouble with that kind of robbing-Peter-to-pay-Paul thinking is that it never really works out that way. There are no shortcuts. Skipping lunch will take its toll on you in some fashion. You will get tired before the day is over, cranky, or eat too much at dinner trying to overcompensate.

Effective Leadership Requires Your Mind to Take a Lunch Break

If effective leadership has eluded you thus far, take a step back and ask yourself if you are "skipping lunch." Have you stopped to assess your own qualifications and nourish your thinking with affirmative acknowledgment of all that you can do? This is your mental lunch, and you should be sure and "eat it" every day for effective leadership execution.

Rather than feeling worn down and inadequate when running up against obstacles, taking the time to recognize your skills as a leader will go a long way toward your effective leadership goals. So take some time every day and mentally "lunch" on everything you do great! It's the best way to be sure you are able to give your all in your leadership position.
