Ah February, the month of love. Well it is for some of us. For many women over 40 who are single, it’s a painful reminder that they are still just that. For divorced women, the memories of a lost relationship that ended on a sour note can stop them from moving forward. Of course, for you women out there who are just fine with being single or divorced, that’s perfectly okay; no need to read further.
So how does today’s 40+ woman dive into the dating scene?
- Buck the trends. You could participate in speed dating or online dating, etc., but I’m sure if there are 50 ways to leave your lover, there are equally as many ways to meet one. Start hanging out in the places your target guy does. If he likes fly-fishing, invest in some hip waders and get out there. March to your own drum beat!
- Be clear. Just as in business, if you’re not clear who your ideal client is and what you need to do to attract them, you’ll greatly reduce your chances of success. Make a list of your desired man’s characteristics, values and principles. Then go one step further and ensure you’re clear in all your communications and boundaries with each new prospect.
- Start and stay strong. Men value and are most attracted to women who are self-confident, generally happy individuals. Sort out your emotions ahead of time. Ghosts from past relationships have no place in a present-day budding romance. Give yourself and him a break from the get-go.
- Set a timeline. Don’t waste your time or his. Give yourself X number of dates to see if things are heading in the direction you want. If not, move on. No excuses, no second chances. Life’s too short to compromise!
