Time to clean up! (via Creative Commons)

Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, New Years…three down and one to go! It’s the time of year where things approach fast, they seem to pass even faster and something else is waiting on the horizon. So what do we do in the meantime, while we sit by and wait for the next holiday to walk through our doors?

Well, first of all, you don’t wait around! It’s one of the best times of year to get your game face on…and the best part? You don’t have to stress while you do it. Many of us have the blessing of a few extra days off along with the support of friends and family surrounding us. Why not put those two magic things together (even if you only have access to one or the other) and turn the Mid-Holiday time into your very own think tank? I think it’s a fine idea. The following is your action task for the day (and rest of the month) – get your think tank fueled and into action!

Think Tank task #1: Straighten it up

Whether you work from home  or from an office, start your year off right with a truly clean slate. I don’t know about you, but I always find something I’ve been looking for when I’m cleaning up. That is reward enough itself! Free your mind of clutter along with your office and desk. Get your work environment in tip-top shape for the year ahead.

Think Tank task #2: Clear your inbox

Digital clutter is just as much a detractor from productivity as physical clutter. Stop ignoring that cluttered inbox and start filing and deleting. And while you’re at it, you might want to consider setting some goals for yourself for that inbox: weekly filing, assigning the task to your assistant. If you have a virtual assistant, they can log into your machine using an application like GoToMyPC and file your email while you sleep!

So there you go! Two simple tasks to get you in gear for the New Year during the between holiday time! Standby for Thursday, where we’ll set some (fun!) goals for the new year.
