Angel Trees Everywhere

by Karen Keller, Ph.D. on December 4, 2008

I just finished wrapping the gifts we picked from our Angel Tree at church.  While doing this my mind wanders – thinking about what the lives are like for the people who I will never meet that receive these packages.  I imagine surprise, gratefulness, and excitement at having something special to open at Christmas time.  It makes me feel good to be part of something, even in an indirect way, that will impact someone’s life.

Which leads me to think about all the decisions in the world; business, education, and politics that have an indirect effect on others, too.  How many times have I made decisions without thinking who will be touched?  Who’s path will be changed or how my decision will interfere in their life?  I started to realize that I need to take more care in my decisions, my thoughts about how things ‘should’ be or only what I want.  Every person in the workplace, no matter what their position is, needs to be more mindful when deciding which way to go.  Being in a position that impacts others’ lives is one of responsibility and accountability.  We need to cherish the trust people have in us – and not disappoint them.  Signing off!
